I know a lot of us feel this way so I want this space to be dedicated to good films we've recently seen and what we think about them! Feel free to post ideas and your own 1-3 sentence review, thought, whatever! You know. . . like the quotes in the back of the books or dvd covers :)
Also, feel free to post the dud movies that aren't worth the time or $ you've recently seen! This is just as helpful as the suggestions for all of us! It's okay if you're feeling in the middle about it- share! We all have different opinions about what we like or don't.
There Be Dragons (2011)
Read my post here.127 Hours (2010)
The King's Speech (2010)
The Young Victoria (2009)
Loved this clean, genuine, (even pro-life) historical romance! Don't expect Austen-esque step-by-step development, but enjoy it for its simplicity and great tribute to the reality (sacrifices!) as well as beauty of marriage. More here.
Toy Story 3 (2010)
Funniest movie I've seen in a long time. I think so far Toy Story is the ONLY recent movie that has made sequels worth the wait and worth watching where your expectations are always surpassed. These writers are geniuses. A MUST SEE for everyone, and definitely worth paying to watch it in the theater! I laughed harder than anyone in the theater, according to my husband. I had TEARS!
Leap Year (2010)
I loved it! It's based on Frank Capra's It Happened One Night, though try not to think of the comparison too hard or it'll ruin the movie! It was super enjoyable, hilarious at parts, and totally clean! Chick Flick Seal of Approval from me!
The Blind Side (2009)
Sandra Bullock is great in this one! Honestly very inspiring and I loved that it is based on a true story. This is more of the background story- not really about the actual game, which I liked.Up in the Air (2009)
I'm on the fence about this one. It started off well and was building well- I particularly liked that the young recent graduate with the new, big job was rooted and defended her position of her higher goal: being a stay at home mom and the permanence of marriage. . . but somewhere in there hers and Clooney's character development, which had been progressing, was just left. .. up in the air. . . It seems like they decided to wrap it up all of a sudden leaving much unsaid and unresolved after so much build up.. . I wouldn't recommend it as a quality film, but it does have lots of room for discussion. The Princess and the Frog (2009)
Hilarious!- especially the exaggeration of the Cajun culture, but I don't think it's for young kids because of the voodoo theme that unfortunately was throughout the movie.I think some of those scenes might be too scary or disturbing.Emma (2010)
I loved this! It was very true to Jane Austen's novel. It premiered on the BBC as a mini-series. If anyone knows where we can find it either online, etc, please share for those who missed it! You can see my full thoughts on my post here.Sense & Sensibility (2008)
Another great rendition. It's a newer BBC mini-series made into a film that is very true to the book and its characters. There's only a few minor adaptations, but overall very well done and enjoyable. It goes by fast, I think! Careful of the first scene, especially with a young audience- a little shocking and unnecessary, I think, especially since it's not even part of the book!
